General Population Census of the Territory of Mayotte (Recensement
général de la population de la collectivité territoriale de
Mayotte)
Mayotte, in the Comoros Islands, is made up of two islands: Grande
Terre where the majority of the population lives, and Petite Terre
which was the historical administrative seat. The whole territory
covers 374 km2. The people can be divided into two main groups:
the Mahors and the Malagasy, who arrived in the early 19th
century. Other populations arrived from other islands in the
Comoros and the Indian Ocean, as well as a more recent Malagasy
wave, some Indians and French from the mainland. As of August
1991, there were 94,400 inhabitants in Mayotte. (COMOROS, REGIONAL

1990 Population Census. Nationalities. Results of the 1-in-4
Sample (Recensement de la population de 1990. Nationalités.
Résultats du sondage au quart)
This issue gives detailed results on the foreign population and
the foreigners having acquired French nationality, drawn from the
1-in-4 extraction of the 1990 Census. The tables cover the
following headings: total population, economically active
population, households-families, accommodation; départements-
regions, migration. Further retrospective tables also provide data
extracted from the previous censuses and from civil registration
sources; these cover acquisitions of French nationality and
permanent foreign workers who have entered France. At the
beginning of the issue, an extract from the Nationality Code has
been published in order to clarify the concept of "foreigner". At
the end of the issue, some relatively detailed explanatory notes
are given to enable the reader to understand the methodology used
during the extraction of the population census (economically
active population, households, families, etc.). (FRANCE,
POPULATION CENSUS, SAMPLING, NATIONALITY)

1990 Population Census. Households - Families. Results of the 1-
in-4 Sample (Recensement de la population de 1990. Ménages -
familles. Résultats du sondage au quart)
This issue provides detailed results on the Households-Families
analysis obtained from the 1-in-4 extraction of the 1990 Census.
The tables cover the following headings: households (household
structure, social characteristics and nationality), individuals
(overall group, children, people living alone, those isolated from
households). Further retrospective tables provide data on the
previous censuses. At the beginning of the issue, an analysis is
published which summarizes the main results in terms of numbers.
At the end of the issue, some relatively detailed explanatory
notes permit the reader to refer to the definitions chosen for the
population census extraction (economically active population,
households, families), in particular with regard to the amended
definition of family children which was decided on between 1982
and 1990. (FRANCE, POPULATION CENSUS, SAMPLING, HOUSEHOLD, FAMILY)

93.72.04 - French
1990 Population Census. The Overseas Territories' Population, both
Born There or Originating There, now Residing in Metropolitan
France. Results of the 1-in-4 Sample (Recensement de la population
de 1990. Les populations des DOM-TOM, nées et originaires,
résidant en France métropolitaine. Résultats du sondage au quart)
The present issue provides detailed results on the populations of
France's overseas territories residing in Metropolitan France, as
obtained from the 1-in-4 sample of the 1990 Census. Most of the
tables cover people born in the territories and residing in
Metropolitan France; the last ones deal with those originating in
the territories, present in Metropolitan France. These two
concepts (born in the territories or originating from the
territories) are defined in the preface; it is emphasised that the
new definition of children of families, as adopted for the 1990
census, leads to changes in the numbers of those originating from
the territories. Further retrospective tables provide data on the
previous censuses. At the beginning of the issue, an analysis is
published which summarizes the main results in terms of figures.
At the end of the issue, relatively detailed explanatory notes
allow the reader to understand the methodology used for the
extraction of the population census (economically active
population, households, family, etc.). (FRANCE, CARIBBEAN,
POPULATION CENSUS, SAMPLING, IMMIGRANTS)
